Purgatory? Here on Earth?

The Catholic Church believes: “Purgatory” is the condition or process of purification in which the souls of those who die in a state of grace are made ready for heaven.”
Are some of the ghosts, we see, in Purgatory?
Prayers for the dead are said, in many cultures, to help the dead rest in peace, and to help them reach heaven. This is a common thread, that leads me to think that many ghosts are here, because they are not ready for heaven. Maybe there is a dimension that we can not see, that could be named “purgatory”.
Is purgatory a sad place? Souls bring what they have learned into purgatory. There is suffering, but there is also happiness as souls learn, and eventually ascend into heaven. If they were truely evil, they would be in Hell. Of course, for a evil person, their own purgatory would be Hell on Earth.
After reaching heaven, I believe that spirits are not locked behind heavens gate. They are able to visit Earth, see family, and even wander places they have enjoyed….. before they reenter heaven. It’s important to remember, that not all spirits need our help.

According to Catholic Theology during this “process” of purgatory, which is part of the transition to “Heaven” in which the souls have already been accepted (they are just finishing up their prerequisites, albeit some may suffer) they do not communicate outside of this “state” – they are busy with other matters – increasing their holiness and therefore are in a protected “state,” visitation would not occur until after they reach their final destination. This is not an “in between” or lost state – this is a purposeful path and is often misunderstood by non-Catholics.
If you believe that spirits go towards the light to transition successfully – then purgatory is the light, they are just in the waiting room after the light – so they will not be in touch, they have already gone into the light.
I am glad they have done away with limbo because purgatory is much easier to explain
ADD: Purgatory is also misunderstood by Catholics also:)
The idea that spirits can not communicate, when in the state of purgatory, is religious opinion, but open to debate. None of us has actually been to purgatory, to know what the rules are. However, we know that GOD gave us free will. Free will is given to us, and remains with us, after death. Once our bodies are gone, our spirits continue to learn. We learn, communicate, and do what we need to do. In the end, we hopefully advance to our ulimate heaven.
