Eagle Sighting Trip at Reelfoot Lake, Tennessee

Hello!
Just got back from my eagle sighting trip at Reelfoot Lake in western Tennessee. It is one of the big gathering places in the lower 48 for wintering eagles from Canada. There is also a large population of year round eagles at this location.
I saw three of the eight or so nests that belong to the residing birds. I was surprised to learn that in this cold weather the birds are already starting to sit on eggs and owls already have babies hatched.
If my memory serves me right the number of eagles I saw where six on Thursday afternoon, well over twenty on Friday, six on Saturday, and four Sunday morning…and that was a very conservative count.
By the way it was freezing rain every day but Sunday. It was a trip for the stout of heart but the eagles love this kind of weather.
Also, the average eagle nest is about 5 feet in diameter and weighs 300 to 600 pounds the biggest one on record was over 8 feet in diameter and was estimated to weigh over 2,000 pounds because it had been added to every year for many years it was 12 feet deep in twigs. The nesting bowl would have still just been 18 or so inches deep.
Oh, I almost forgot everyone needs to know this fact. Do you know why when geese fly in a formation one side of the V is always longer than the other side?????
It’s because there are more geese on the long side. Just thought you should know that if anyone ever asks. **SMILE**
I am going to add just a few pictures here, but if anyone would like to see more I can send you a file of a lot more.

Wish I could have shared it with you.
