CAYENNE
Botanical name: Capsicum annum, Capsicum frutescenes
Common name: Cayenne
Habitat: Originally from South America, the cayenne plant is now used world wide as a food and spice. Cayenne is very closely related to bell peppers, jalapenos and paprika.
Info: Most Herbalists would not be without this herb. This herb is wonderful for winter colds, congestion, infection, and inflammation. It adds warmth and breaks up congestion, clears sinuses and serves to activate other herbs. Cayenne is frequently used to treat diseases of the circulatory system. Cayenne is used in creams and rubbed on the skin, cayenne is traditional has well as modern, remedy for rheumatic pains and arthritis due to what is termed a counter irritant.
Personal: I use Cayenne in many of my formulas to activate other herbs has well as using it alone for circulation and energy. We use an extra dose in the winter for warmth and prevention of cold’s and flu’s taking hold. I have also used Cayenne in a lotion base for circulation.
