HOPS
Botanical name: Humulus lupulus, Cannabaceae
Common name: hops, lupus, willow wolf, common hops, hemp family
Habitat: The hops plant is a climbing plant native to Europe, Asia and North America
Info: Hops is soothing to the stomach and promotes healthy digestion having been the strongest historical use. Hops tea is also recommended by herbalists as a mild sedative and remedy for insomnia. It is excellent for regulating and balancing hormonal production. This herb is now considered the primary herb in brewing beer.
Personal info: Dried hops has a sweet smell. I use hops in dream pillows, because hops is rich in volatile oils. The volatile oils are released by the pressure of sleeping on the pillow and affect the brain directly through the olfactory center. I use the recipe from Rosemary Gladstars book. I also add the herbs chamomile, roses, lavender and mugwort to my dream pillows.
Main uses: Medical insomnia, nervous tension, gastrointestinal spasm
