MARSHMALLOW ROOT

Botanical name: Althea officinalis

Common name: Sweetweed mallow family, Althaea

Habitat: Edges of salt water and fresh water, marshes, originally from Europe, it now grows in the U.S. has well.  It grows in salt marshes, thus it’s name.

Info: Marshmallow root is high mucilage content; it is a soothing healing plant, useful in treating inflammation and ulceration in the stomach and small intestine.  Used for asthma, common cold/sore throat, cough, Crohn’s disease, diarrhea, Gastritis, Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), indigestion, pap smear abnormal, peptic ulcer, ulcerative colitis

Personal info: I make a tincture from Marshmallow root in a glycerite because it is less irritating to the body by taking the alcohol out.  The tincture is used for many ailments listed above.  It is the perfect herbal Prilosec or Nexium.
