ECHINACEA ROOT

Botanical name:  Echinacea purpurea, Echinacea augustifolia, Echinacea pallida

Common name:  Purple coneflower

Habitat:  It is a wildflower native to North America.  The root and/or the above – ground part of the plant during the flowering growth phase are used in herbal medicine.

Info:  Echinacea is the wonder herb for all acute inflammation conditions.  Whenever there is pus or red inflammation in a particular area, Echinacea is sure to be affective, usually within three days.  This herb is used for common cold/sore throat symptoms; effective only for adults, Gingivitis, Immune function, infection, influenza, wound healing (topical).  Echinacea is thought to support the immune system by activating white blood cells.

Personal:  Echinacea was my very first tincture.  It is a somewhat bitter tasting herb.  We use it to expel mucous during flu season, you can feel it working almost immediately.  I love this herb!
